Khirsu: An offbeat and hidden jewel of Uttarakhand

One of them is Khirsu, a hill station in Pauri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand is situated at an altitude of 1700 m. It lies at a distance of 11 KM towards north from Pauri and 92 KM from Dehradun city towards west. Khirsu is famous for its scenic background. Especially in the winter you can see spectacular 300 km-wide panoramic view of the Himalayas, including snow-crested Trishul, Nanda Devi, Nandakot and Panchchuli peaks from this hill station.

How to reach Khirsu:

By Air: The nearest airport is Dehradun Airport from where you have to travel by car or bus. Hire car on rent in Dehradun for Khirsu which will take approx 5 hours to reach.

By Train: The nearest railway station is Kotdwar.

By Road: Travel to Khirsu with best service of Tempo Traveller in Haridwar and enjoy with your group. Haridwar to Khirsu distance is approx 150 km and takes 4 hours to reach. 9-10 hours is sufficient to travel through Meerut-Pauri national highway. Pauri is well connected through roads with Dehradun, Rishikesh and Kotdwar. But, a trek from Pauri, down the Kandoliya hills offers the most exciting alternative route to Khirsu.

Jwalpa-Devi Temple: A well-known religious centre on Pauri – Kotdwar road, is renowed for great faith and devotion. Situated at the panorama of the hills near the river has very peaceful environment in premises. You can take part in fair organized in months of Navratras.

Ghandiyal Devta Temple: The ancient temple of Ghandiyal Devta is also a renowned site among the locals for performing veneration and rituals.

BEYOND KHIRSU

Srinagar

Centre of Garhwal University, it is the biggest township in the area. It was capital of Garhwals years ago.

Deval Garh

One of the important Garh capitals of Garhwal. It is situated 16 km away from Khirsu towards Srinagar. Raj Rajeshwari & Gauri Devi Temples are the important attractions here.

Ulkha-Garhi

3 km from Khirsu (Chaubattakhal) Ulkha-Garhi is known for small Ulkeshwari temple and ruins of Garh-capital.

Pauri

Pauri is also an attractive hill station and 20 km from Khirsu. Diverse in topography, the district of Pauri Garhwal varies from the foothills of the Tarai of Kotdwar to the soul-lifting meadows of Dhanaulti, sprawling at an altitude of 3,000 m, which remains snowbound during the winter months. Pauri Garhwal is surrounded by the districts of Chamoli, Nainital, Bijnor, Haridwar, Dehradun, Rudraprayag and Tehri Garhwal. Kanvashram

Situated at a distance of 14 km from Kotdwar, Kanvashram is an important place from the historical and archaeological point of view. It is believed that Sage Vishwamitra meditated here.
